The Last Sunset

Opening music: Jogja, Kla Project
View the traffic of Jogja around the crossroad of Malioboro.

Int: Restaurant, afternoon about 2 p.m
It’s showed in a glance the situation inside the restaurant. People are enjoying their meal.
From the entrance door, a girl is entering the restaurant. She directly goes to one spot of the restaurant where a man sits enjoying his drink.
Tyas:
Oh, I’m so sorry for my being late. (She sits in front of the man’s chair)
Andre:
It’s no problem.
Tyas:
I thought that you’ll not come.
Andre:
Hey, how can you think like that? I’m who called you and asked you to meet. How can I do not come?
Tyas:
It can be.
I just, I didn’t believe when I received your call several days ago. I didn’t believe that it’s you.  It has been so long. I thought you’ve forgotten me.
Andre:
Oh, Tyas, I’m so sorry…
Tyas:
No, don’t say sorry. I absolutely understand about it.
(Now they are in silence)
A waiter comes
Andre:
What do you want to eat?
Tyas:
Let me see. (She takes the menu and read it)
Andre:
Please order for me. Do you still remember my favorite food in this restaurant?
Tyas:
Yeah, of course. I’ll never forget it. (Tyas gives the order to the waiter)
I’ll never forget anything about you. Every minute we passed together, including this restaurant. Hey, congratulation, btw.
Andre:
For what?
Tyas:
Of course for your marriage planning.
Andre:
Tyas, do you still angry to me?
Tyas:
Andre, please. I’m not such an immature person. I absolutely know that relationship will not always be end in marriage. May be our relationship was very beautiful at that time, but you went away suddenly, you left me without notification before, without I know the reason why. I can receive it. May be I was just your short-period love when you’re in Jogja.
Andre:
Please don’t say like that.
Tyas:
Say what? Say that I think you just make me your temporar girl when you’re 2 years in Jogja.
Andre:
Tyas…
Tyas:
Oh, don’t worry. I’m just kidding.
Andre:
I never consider you as my short-time love. I really love you since the first time I saw you dancing in Sultan Palace. It was my first time visiting Jogja. My office colleagues asked me to make a tour in the first Sunday I lived in Jogja.
Tyas:
It’s Sunday. You should come from Jakarta early, so that you can see the Java dance performance performing every Sunday morning in Sultan Palace. It probably can call back the memory when we met for the first time.
Andre:
Do you still dance, Tyas?
Tyas:
Sometimes.
(The waiter comes bringing their meal)
Tyas:
Why do you come here?
Andre:
For business reason.
Tyas:
And, why do you want to see me?
Andre:
Tyas, listen, I’ll never be able to forget you. Since I asked to take your picture after you performed at Sultan Palace 4 years ago, we introduced our self each other. I waited you outside the make-up room until you change your costume and you accompanied me to go to Taman Sari, walked together in complex of Ngasem then shopped in many batik shops there, ate Gudeg in Wijilan, then we spent the sunset in Alun-alun Selatan. I love it all, it can't be deleted from my memory and I’ll never want to delete it. I’ll save it in my heart and my memory, both you and Yogyakarta.
Tyas:
You love it? Why do you leave me at that time?
Andre:
You know, I move to the central office in Jakarta suddenly. I handled many jobs. A month later, got my master scholarship from my company. I went to German about 1.5 years. Coming back from German, I handled many jobs in my office. I was trapped in my duties day and night. I also trapped in my relationship with one of my job colleagues now being my fiancé.
Tyas:
Do you still love me?
Andre:
Yeah. After I have done my hard study, hard work and never ending job, the noise of Jakarta, I really want to go home to Jogja, see you again, a girl I love in this lovely city. It gives a peace for my soul.
Tyas:
Really?
Andre:
Yes, I always want to go home here to Jogja and to you, like Mark Antony who really love Egypt and Cleopatra. He wanted to spend his old time and die in Egypt. So do I. If I could choose, I will chose to spend my old time and die here in lovely and peace Jogja beside you.
Tyas:
So, marry me.
Andre:
Tyas, I can’t.
Tyas:
Why?
Andre:
Of course, I can’t leave my fiancĂ©. Our marriage is next week.
Tyas:
You were able to leave me 2 years ago.
Andre:
The situation is different.
Tyas:
I know, don’t worry.
Don’t you know, Andre? After you went away from me without any news, I really depressed. I came here almost every day. This was our favorite place. I can’t share my feeling to anyone but the owner of this restaurant. It’s heard so crazy, right? But, it is past. Let’s forget it.
Andre:
I’m so sorry. Are you with someone now?
Tyas:
No one is better than you. No one can replace you from my heart. Hey, your marriage is few day later, why do you want to meet your ex girlfriend?
Andre:
Before I marry, I want to have a last date with you. Go home to Jogja, the place where I found a girl I love in the past.
Tyas:
Are you sure that you don’t want to leave her and marry me?
Andre:
Tyas, it’s impossible.
Tyas:
Ok, I see. Just the last date before you become the husband of the other girl, right? I absolutely understand.
So, where do you really want to visit?
Andre:
What do you mean?
Tyas:
You said that you want to enjoy Jogja. If it was your very last chance to visit Jogja, and you just only had one choice, which place do you really want to spend your last visit here?
Andre:
I think I want to visit Alun-alun kidul, because there was our first date. I love the sunset at that place.
Tyas:
I’ll take you there. Finish your meal! Don’t forget to finish your drink. It’s a new menu in this place. I visit this restaurant regularly, so I know it.
(Andre drinks)
Andre:
Are you sure you will accompany me there? (He gives the sign to call the waiter and pay the bill)
Tyas:
Of course. We can walk through the complex of Ngasem. I think you have to hurry. You want to get there soon, right?
(Tyas stands and picks Andre’s hand, guides him to walk leave the restaurant)
Tyas:
(Whispering to Andre)
Who knows it is your last chance to visit there.
They walk along the area of Ngasem.

Ext: Alun-alun Kidul, sunset about 5 p.m
Andre and Tyas are sitting in the grass of Alkid.
Tyas:
Is it Ok if you meet me now?
Andre:
No one knows I meet you. I can guaranty it.
Tyas:
Good.
Andre:
What?
Tyas:
It means that there is no problem with your next-week wedding party, right?
Andre:
(Sees the two big Banyan trees in the center of Alkid) Do you believe in the myth that if we can walk pass between the two of those Banyan trees with the closed eyes, our wishes will come true?
Tyas:
No, I passed there, but I can’t get you back.
(Andre looks at Tyas)
Tyas:
I’m kidding. I don’t believe it, because it’s not written in the religion precept. If I believe that kind of myth, I’ll not be able to smell the fragrant of the paradise.
Andre:
Let’s try to pass it.
Tyas:
I’ve said that I don’t believe it.
Andre:
Ok. (He looks not feeling well)
I think I’m a little bit tired after my trip from Jakarta. I don’t feel all right.
Tyas:
What do you feel?
Andre:
I feel sick. Rather pain in the heart. May be I’m cold.
Tyas:
I feel the same when you leave me, and the feeling is worse when I heard about your marriage plan. It’s sick.
Andre:
What do you mean Tyas?
Tyas:
Do you think that I can easily forget you and consider it’s like nothing happen? I can’t let you go that easy.
(Andre become deteriorate)
Tyas:
I put a poison in your drink. I told the owner of the restaurant, who now becomes my friend after I often visit there and share my sadness about you, to put the poison in your drink.
Andre:
What?
Tyas:
I can’t let you go. I can’t let you become hers. It’s better for you to die rather than belong to someone else.
Andre:
How can you do that?
Tyas:
You’re the one in my life. I can’t let you become the husband of the other girl. I can’t.
(Andre is weaker. He produces much sweat in his face)
(The sun’s gone. It’s darker)
(Tyas takes Andre to her lap)
Tyas:
Oh, come here sweat heart.
I’m so sorry you can’t attend your own wedding next week.
Marx Antony got his want to die in Egypt.
You get your want to die in your beloved Jogja.
You’re such a bad boy playing with a girl’s heart.
You should die soon. At least, you die in front of the girl who really loves you.
Sleep in peace, darling.
Andre:
Tyas, you’re …
(He died)
Tyas:
(Crying)
It’s never been such a silence.
(Closing song: the middle part of song Jogja Kla project)
View Tyas and Andre in her lap, wider to the noise of Alkid, then the crossroad of malioboro at night.
The End.
